The Magic Flute was inspired by memories of my mother playing Saturday morning broadcasts of the Metropolitan Opera on our radio. We would hear the music while we hung the wash on clotheslines or did yard work.
I was intrigued by the stories and exotic locations. I could hear the singers and the beautiful arias they sang. I could feel the rapt thrill of the audience as they watched. In my imagination, I could picture the atmosphere of the theater, with its darkness, and shadows cast by the stage lighting.
