In BRAHMS PIANO QUINTET, I portray friends and family, gathered together in their home, to play music. This scene comes from my own experience of hearing music in those more intimate settings.
This giclee is based on my 1982 mixed-media painting (watercolor and gouache), BRAHMS’ QUINTET.
If one looks closely at the artwork, within the paintings on the wall and the carpeting, you can find many images of trout and other fish. This is because I originally planned the artwork to be Franz Shubert’s Trout Quintet. However, I changed the music piece when I discovered that, rather than the usual piano quintet, composed of a piano and string quartet, Schubert’s piece is written for piano, violin, viola, cello and double bass.
