Artist’s Notes
My carousel bears no wooden horses at all, but instead contains a fantastic parade of animals, including: tortoises, frogs, elephants, lions and swans. They are all depicted in great detail, honoring the craftsmanship of artisans and master wood carvers.
The earliest depiction of a carousel dates back to 500 AD, and I wished to pay homage to this antique art form, as well as to revisit memories of enjoying leisurely days in the park. THE CAROUSEL was inspired by the beautiful carousel in Balboa Park in San Diego.
