Description

He drove Adam and Eve out of the Garden.
He placed the Cherubim with a flaming sword, which turned every way,
to guard the way to the tree of life.
John August Swanson’s 2016 giclee, ADAM AND EVE, revisits one of the artist’s earliest paintings from 1969. Enlarged in size and reimagined in vivid colors (brighter and more saturated), the new artwork is enhanced with additional details and embellishments. To protect the image from ultraviolet light, a glossy varnish was printed over the artwork.
Because Swanson printed giclee editions in smaller batches, only those printed during his lifetime are signed by the artist. The remaining prints from the edition are made using the same image he created and approved, but with his signature printed where he would have signed them.
History Of The Image
ADAM AND EVE- History of the Image
I wanted to keep the original sense of playfulness and movement from my earlier works. The image had made an impression on me. I wanted to both recapture my initial experience of creating the artwork, and add greater intensity to the work. |
